Our Story

Lombricoltura Siciliana s.r.l. was established in November 2020 in the heart of Sicily. This project, fueled by a passion for the land, animals, and the great outdoors, brought together four friends to embark on a new path, united by the belief that Nature is the only existing laboratory capable of providing for all our needs.

In the ancient rural village of Casuto, a small hamlet of Leonforte in the province of Enna, there has been a family-run agricultural company for years, primarily dedicated to cattle farming.

In the late nineties, a portion of the land was identified by a multinational company in search of hydrocarbons for drilling. After long months, due to the meager amount of gas found, the extraction activity was halted, leaving behind a barren concrete platform against the backdrop of the splendid Erei mountains and the lush Monte Altesina Nature Reserve.

Years later, driven by a love for the land, Antonio, Andrea, Giovanni and Luis decided to join forces to give back to Mother Nature what that act of environmental exploitation had taken away. In a short amount of time, what remained of that search for polluting energy sources was transformed into a completely ecological and sustainable activity: vermiculture.

For years, I have managed the family business where I have gained experience in the agricultural and livestock sectors. I am truly convinced that Man is an integral part of "Nature" and that his actions can have devastating consequences for the environment.

Luis

I am passionate about botany, I love and respect nature, and I have discovered the importance of ancient methods of cultivating the land, which has fascinated me.

Giovanni

"Working is my life" I dive headfirst into every work project that excites me, always striving for the best. I believe that teamwork always yields good results...

Andrea

First from my grandfather and then from my father, I inherited a love for the land and a dedication to work. I grew up with the dream of becoming an agricultural entrepreneur to continue the family tradition.

Our Vermicompost - Our Method

Caring for our earthworms to obtain a product of extreme quality.

Raw Material

We use only non-intensive, locally sourced bovine manure, transforming it from a polluting product into a high-quality organic fertilizer.



Production

We carry out the entire production process indoors. We have designed and created a series of tanks to create the ideal living conditions for the earthworms.



Packaging

When the vermicompost in the tanks reaches the maximum level set, we proceed with the extraction and transfer it to the indoor drying area, where it will be turned until it reaches the minimum moisture level…

Advantages of the system

Control of the environment (humidity, temperature, light), ensuring the well-being of the worms and the subsequent increase in the quality of the final product.
Water efficiency, water is one of our most precious resources and thanks to our rationalized irrigation system, we minimize waste.
Energy efficiency, with the control and streamlining of the production process, we primarily aim for energy savings (machinery, fuels). Sustainability is the central element of our vision.
Optimal exploitation of raw materials, thanks to our system, the amount of waste is minimal, and reused for other purposes.
Absence of pest agents, since our production process takes place entirely indoors.
